Our Story

EME was incorporated in Gaborone, Botswana in 1980. The company produces a wide variety of high quality school, office, playground equipment, and institutional furniture.

We are passionate about manufacturing, and take pride in the belief that our furniture is built to last [link to warranty policy]. We envision a future in which the products we manufacture enable Botswana's children and their families to truly flourish. [link to mural]
Empowering our workforce with knowledge, skills, tools and opportunity is paramount to our vision. Our team members benefit from strength-building programs such as:
  • A fully transparent skills-based compensation scheme and career path
  • A rigorous training program focused on core skills development
  • A financial assistance program to empower employees to construct their own homes, educate their children, and provide care for their families.

Efficiency and quality are also core to our beliefs. In 2006, EME became the first furniture manufacturer in Botswana to attain ISO 9001 certification.

Through our work with the Botswana Bureau of Standards, we introduced the country's first set of Furniture Standards (BOS 251-1, BOS 251-2, BOS 251-3, BOS 251-4, BOS 251-5, BOS 251-6 and BOS 295).

The factory follows an industry-leading mixed-model value stream approach, with fundamental lean principles ingrained at each step of the production process.
Dear to our hearts is EME's social mission, in which we seek to positively impact the lives of underprivileged children and adults in Botswana.

We have adopted several schools and hospices under our care program [link to SMS]. Through the program, essential items such as books, stationery, food, beds & blankets, wardrobes, clothing and cooking equipment have been donated.

Through our partnership with Share My Story, we hope to grow our efforts to bring dignity and opportunity to those who need it most.
